THE PURSUIT

Five Rounds. Two Estates. A week along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.

Seven nights between Lough Eske Castle in Donegal and Mount Falcon in County Mayo, and five rounds on the links between them: Donegal Golf Club, Narin & Portnoo, St Patrick’s Links at Rosapenna, County Sligo at Rosses Point and Enniscrone. Gary Murphy hosts the week, with welcome and farewell dinners, a day at leisure in Sligo and sixteen travelers in all.

SEVEN NIGHTS · FIVE ROUNDS · BY INVITATION
IRELAND'S WILD ATLANTIC WAY

From Eddie Hackett to Tom Doak

The week moves from Donegal Bay to Killala Bay across nearly a century of links design. Harry Colt shaped County Sligo at Rosses Point, home of the West of Ireland Championship and No. 90 on Golf Digest’s list of the World’s 100 Greatest. Eddie Hackett laid out Donegal Golf Club on the Murvagh Peninsula and the original Enniscrone, which Donald Steel later carried deeper into some of the biggest dunes in golf. Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner reimagined Narin & Portnoo above Gweebarra Bay. And at Rosapenna, Tom Doak’s St Patrick’s Links, opened in 2021, is already ranked No. 58 in the world.

Each round sits on a different stretch of the same coast: the Murvagh Peninsula, Gweebarra Bay, Sheephaven Bay, Rosses Point beneath Benbulben, and the dunes above Killala Bay.

Five links, five architects, and some of the biggest dunes in the game.
YOUR HOST

Meet Gary Murphy

Born in Kilkenny, Murphy won the Irish Amateur Close in 1992, turned professional in 1995 and made close to 300 appearances on the European Tour, including a career-best third at the 2008 Irish Open at Adare Manor and a share of 34th at the 2003 Open Championship. Today he competes on the Legends Tour, serves as Head Golf Professional at The K Club, and is a familiar voice on DP World Tour broadcasts. On the course, over dinner and in the clubhouse afterward, he brings the history, architecture and personalities of Irish golf with him.

Some hosts plan the week. Gary Murphy plays it with you.

THE GOLF

Five rounds. Five different tests of Irish links.

Each round is on a different stretch of the northwest coast, from a Hackett original on the Murvagh Peninsula to a Tom Doak links opened in 2021. Two of the five rank among Golf Digest’s World’s 100 Greatest.

Round One

Donegal Golf Club

Day 2

Set on the Murvagh Peninsula in Donegal Bay, Eddie Hackett’s links runs between beaches and dunes with views to the Bluestack Mountains. It’s a classic links that rewards thoughtful play over power.

Round Two

Narin & Portnoo Links

Day 3

A links on the Atlantic coast of County Donegal, winding through natural dunes above Gweebarra Bay and reimagined by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner. Lunch and a pint are included with the round.

Round Three

Rosapenna Resort, St Patrick's Links

Day 4

Tom Doak’s links opened in 2021 and is already No. 58 on Golf Digest’s list of the World’s 100 Greatest. Each nine works out toward Sheephaven Bay through channels in the dunes, with broad, bouncy fairways feeding into greens set in hollows or perched on wind-swept bluffs.

A Day at Leisure

Sligo

Day 5

A day set aside in a region known for its landscapes and literary heritage, with beaches, coastal walks, and the town's cafés close at hand.

Round Four

County Sligo Golf Club, Colt Championship Links

Day 6

Set on the Rosses Point peninsula and shaped by Harry Colt, County Sligo has tested Ireland’s leading amateurs for over a century as home of the West of Ireland Championship. It ranks No. 90 in the world, with Benbulben as a backdrop the length of the round.

Round Five

Enniscrone Golf Club, The Dunes Course

Day 7

Eddie Hackett’s original links, later carried into the high dunes by Donald Steel, runs along Killala Bay through some of the biggest sandhills in golf. Golf Digest ranks its dune holes among the steepest anywhere, and the course is No. 18 in Ireland.
